Red is a tough color. It’s an aggressive color that brings intensity to any setting. Real estate photographers hate it because the eye ignores everything but the red in the photo. But many people love red. Question is how to bring it into a warm, tropical home without creating more heat. And what color scheme works in Hawaii as the traditional red, white and blue nautical coastal schemes are more east coast than Hawaii. In my opinion, red lends itself to outdoor furniture but can be used indoors if it is toned down with neutrals or my favorite combination with white. It also lends itself to more Hawaiiana and traditional styles as well as Asian styles. Here’s a look at a fresh approach that would work great in a plantation style Hawaiian home or a beach bungalow.
