YELLOW
Yellow creates a cheery emotion for most people. Those bright daffodils that are popping up now are a harbinger of sunny days ahead and such a relief after the harsh weather on the mainland and doldrums of our pandemic year. So how to bring this happy color into your tropical home?
How about this lovely combination from Serena and Lily? Paired with bright white and neutral natural finishes and a glass coffee table, these golden yellows are fresh. BTW - Serena and Lily is based in California and ships to Hawaii. Yay!
Here’s a tip… Sometimes its hard to find vibrant colors like yellow. Retailers like Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel often save those colors for their teen and kids products. Have a look at this gorgeous linen quilt from Crate and Barrel - available in twin of course, but also full/queen. Fold it at the end of an all white bed and add a patterned pillow and you are done.
And of course, what’s Hawaii without pineapples. Don’t go overboard as pineapples can be a bit cliché. These ones from SoHa Living available on-island or on-line are great fun.
While yellow is considered the happiest and friendliest color, it is also bring on anxiety in large doses. It calls you to take notice (think yield and the color of taxi’s in NYC) and brings your brain to attention. So its not the best color when you want to create a relaxing super calm environment. So be thoughtful of how you use yellow - a little goes along way.
